Celebrating our undergraduate researchers: a mariachi evening

Miguel Duarte is a lab student who has worked with us for almost as long as we have been at Arizona State University. He is in the process of writing up his undergraduate thesis on herbivory impacts on leaf functioning, and has worked with us in the laboratory and also out in the desert. He can often be found helping others with their projects, sharing his expertise on techniques he has helped to pioneer with our team.

And – he also happens to be a very good guitarist who plays professionally in a mariachi group. We took a lab trip to hear his group play at a Friday night gig at Mariscos Playa Hermosa in Phoenix.

It was a real pleasure seeing him shine in a very different context, and to learn more about the talents of the people on our team. We’ll miss him when he graduates this December!
